Parish History St. Mary Parish celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2005, with pride in its struggles, and successes, and in what has been accomplished in the first 50 years of its history.
Out of ten acres of undeveloped land, the dedication of its founding pastor, and the commitment of nearly 400 families, St. Mary Catholic Community was born in the north end of Port Huron on June 24, 1955. Father William Welch celebrated Mass for the new Parish in the DAV Hall at Elk and Mansfield Streets, and later in the Garfield School Auditorium. Sixteen months later, on October 7, 1956, the first Sunday Masses were celebrated in the church that stands today.
From that determined beginning, St. Mary has grown to 1355 families, a school enrollment of 128 children and a religious education program offering Faith Formation to 300 children.
Playing a significant role in the 50 years of development are the priests who have served as pastor.
